“One Day, We’ll Get Engaged,” the Love Story of Lionel Messi and Antonela Rocuzzo Proves You Can Love One Person Your Whole Life
Some celebrity relationships can’t withstand the test of time and fame. Some fall apart shortly after they start and even result in scandals, trials, and mutual accusations. But there are some couples who break this vicious circle.
They are a truly inspirational example of what pure and never-ending love really looks like. And this can be seen with today’s featured lovebirds, a famous professional soccer player, Lionel Messi, and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, who’ve been in love with each other for eternity and whose marriage is only blossoming with time.
It started in their early childhood.
When Lionel Messi was just a small boy, his dream was to become a soccer player. But his more sacred dream was not so vividly discussed in his interviews. One day, he sat at the table in his room, took out a piece of paper and a pen, and began to write, “Antonela.”
In the letter, the small boy wrote to a small girl with just a sentence: “One day, we will get engaged.” And this was the beginning of a love story that is worth being made into its own movie.
Lionel Messi was born in 1987 in Rosario, Argentina. Antonela Rocuzzo, a lovely girl and the love of Messi’s life, was born just a year later in 1988. Their childhood love was born at the home of Messi’s friend, Lucas Scaglia.
When the kids met for the first time, Messi was playing Sony games at Scaglia’s home. Rocuzzo was there too, and she approached them and asked if they needed something. Young Messi was just too shy to say anything.
At that time, he was 9 years old and Rocuzzo was 8. Since that day, the boy could not take her eyes off the girl for a second. They quickly became friends, but even at that time, Messi knew that he wanted to be with her forever.
Their love had to overcome many obstacles.
When Messi turned 11, though, Barcelona entered his life like a hurricane. He went to Spain in 2000, and life separated the 2 loving hearts. Though their relationship still stayed solid for a while, this was the beginning of real separation.
The couple tried hard to stay in touch, but at that time, there weren’t as many messaging platforms and other tools, so their communication was not smooth at all. Soon, they started losing sight of each other as their contact became less and less.
Their love seemed to be living only in their minds as a beautiful memory of the past, but a sudden tragedy brought them back together. In 2005, Rocuzzo’s close friend died in a traffic accident. The young woman was only 17 years old at that time, and she was absolutely devastated. She did not attend school for several days and was just deeply depressed because of her loss. Messi heard the sad news and immediately rushed to Argentina to be by Rocuzzo’s side.
It was then that their relationship received a second chance. Messi and Rocuzzo revived their deep and pure feelings toward each other, but for some time, they didn’t disclose their relationship.
The happy reunion made their relationship everlasting.
Messi first told people about their romance in an interview in January 2009. Messi and Roccuzzo have 3 sons: Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro. To celebrate Rocuzzo’s first pregnancy, Messi put the ball under his shirt after scoring in Argentina’s 4-0 win against Ecuador on June 2, 2012.
On June 30, 2017, he married the love of his life at a luxury hotel called Hotel City Center in Rosario. In October 2017, Rocuzzo announced they were expecting their third child.
Messi and Rocuzzo’s love story sounds like a beautiful fairy tale. They’ve been together and in love for most of their lives and have faced pain and tragedy only to come out stronger as a couple.
Now, if Messi faces difficulties and fails, we’re sure Rocuzzo will be always there to lend him a hand and her heart and to support him through all the bad times.
